How can I tell if I am expecting twins?
A woman finds out that she is pregnant and after attempting to conceive a child for some time. She gets that adrenaline rush like none other. This is one of the more exciting events she will get to experience in her life. Some might say learning they are pregnant is almost as exciting as the wedding day (that is if the woman were planning to have a baby in the first place). If the woman was not planning on getting pregnant, well that is a different story.
Now that you have learned that you are pregnant it is time to start preparing for the babies entrance into the world. It is never too early for the delivery date.
Who can one prepare when they do not know what gender the child will be? How can someone tell if they are expecting twins? Those questions will likely constantly run through a pregnant woman’s head throughout the first trimester of pregnancy. It may even keep them up some nights. For the first few months of pregnancy, it is impossible to know the sex of the child because the baby is not far enough along. Usually, around 18-20 weeks after the egg is fertilized the doctor will be able to tell the sex of the child. It is important to keep in mind that that is not always the case. It may take longer for the child to develop and show signs of being a male or female.
How can I tell if I will be having twins?
While there isn’t one way to answer this because every pregnancy case is different, but there are some warning signs that could hint at women having twins. Let us take a look at what to look for:
1) Look at hormone hCG levels (human chorionic gonadotropin)
Pregnancy tests can be pretty accurate, but it is not a bad idea to take a blood test as well, to confirm that the pregnancy is, in fact, real. Typically the higher the hCG levels are early on in pregnancy, the chances of having twins are higher.
2) A woman expecting twins may experience more symptoms
It is no surprise that a pregnant woman will experience various sicknesses and symptoms throughout the pregnancy period due to rapid changes in hormonal levels. Those who are pregnant with twins, as you may expect, are more likely to be dealing with more severe symptoms such as morning sickness, cramps, back pain, breast pain, and breast pain. So if you are experiencing more pregnancy symptoms (often and early) than your pregnant friend, then you will likely be having twins.
3) Larger baby bump
Some pregnant women do not get their baby bump or show signs of pregnancy for weeks after testing positive on a home pregnancy test. Those who are expecting twins can expect to gain weight faster and show a baby bump earlier than someone expecting just one baby. As expected, it is a lot harder to hide two growing babies than one.
