What the Old Wives’ Tales Say About Whether You’ll Have a Boy or a Girl

There are many old wives tales that are told about pregnancy and how to determine if an unborn child is a boy or a girl. Many of these ideas and myths are based on the way a woman looks whilst she is pregnant and the way she acts whilst she is pregnant. A number of other old wives tales are also told about how to determine the sex of a baby, including those about the position of furniture during conception and the actions of a man at the same time. Although it is now easy to accurately predict the sex of a baby it can be fun to play around a little with the old wives tales that were popular in the past.

The way a woman looks makes a big difference

Amongst the old wives tales that are told about pregnancy is the thought that the way a woman looks can make a big difference to which sex her unborn baby is. A woman who is clearly pregnant when viewed from behind is said to be having a girl, whilst those who carry there baby at the front of their bodies are thought to be having boys. A girl is also said to take away the natural beauty and glow associated with women who are pregnant.

Alongside the way a woman looks there are also many myths about what she eats making a difference to which sex her baby will be. Boys and girls are thought to affect the cravings of a woman in different ways and can be an indicator of the sex of a baby.

Furniture and men also make a difference

The next few old wives tales are a little stranger and are often much harder to determine than the first few listed. Firstly, the position of the furniture when conception takes place is also thought to play a key role in affecting the sex of a baby. A bed facing in a specific direction during conception is thought to play a major role in whether the unborn infant is a boy or a girl.

Finally, and somewhat painfully the man involved in the pregnancy is always afforded a major role in the sex of a baby. Tying up a single testicle was a favorite way of making sure a boy or girl was born as one testicle was thought to produce males and the other was thought to be responsible for producing females.
